Short-Term Fixed Rate Electric Plans in Texas
A short-term fixed plan is one that ends within a year. It is the right shape for a household that may move, is renting on a twelve-month lease, or simply wants the option to re-shop rather than being committed while the market moves.
The trade is price and availability. Retailers generally price shorter terms slightly higher, because they are carrying the same wholesale risk over a shorter recovery period — and fewer of them publish products under twelve months at all, so the list here is usually narrower than the 24- and 36-month one.
What a short term buys you is not a lower bill. It is a smaller early termination fee exposure and a decision point sooner. If you are certain you are staying put for years, that flexibility is something you are paying for and may not need.
One thing a short term does not solve: contracts still expire, and expiring without a replacement moves you onto a default month-to-month product whose price can change between billing cycles. A shorter contract means that date arrives sooner, not that it stops mattering.
