36-Month Fixed Rate Electric Plans in Texas

A 36-month contract is the longest term commonly offered. It fixes your energy rate for three years, which suits a household that is staying put and would rather not think about electricity again until then.

Three years is a long commitment for a service you can only leave by paying a fee, so the early termination fee and the terms of service are worth reading more carefully here than on a shorter plan. Check specifically what happens if you move — relocating is not the same as cancelling, and most retailers treat it differently, but you have to look.

Fewer retailers publish 36-month products than 12- or 24-month ones, so the choice is usually narrower. That is worth knowing before you decide the term first and then shop: at some addresses the best-priced plan on this page may be the only 36-month plan available at all.

Costs shown are for the first year, on exactly the same basis as every other term on this site, so a three-year plan and a one-year plan can be compared like for like. What the comparison cannot tell you is what rates will do in years two and three — nobody knows that, and a longer term is a bet in both directions.
